Last weekend we were at the Factory Music Venue in Porth for a very special charity gig. Valley Aid was organised by our friends at Avanti Media to raise money for the local people of the Rhondda Valleys who were affected by flooding. The money was raised through ticket and merchandise sales, a ‘rock auction’, and a bucket collection at the Stereophonics gigs at Motorpoint Arena Cardiff.  Andy Fairweather Low Rhian on monitors for James Dean Bradfield Friday night saw a host of heroes from the Welsh language music scene take to the stage, including Huw Chiswell, Elin Fflur, and Mei Gwynedd. We had the honour of providing sound support for the very first Wales Folk Awards. The inaugural event took place at the BBC Hoddinot Hall and saw the stars of Welsh Folk come out to celebrate their vibrant scene, and to congratulate the winners. The night included performances by Trials of Cato, VRi, Gwilym Bowen Rhys, and Calan. We provided our brand new Coda TiRay PA system, EAW Microwedge 10’s, DPA microphones for the presenters, Allen & Heath GLD, and two of ABacoustics finest engineers! This week we have been at the Victoria Hall in Bolton with our friends at Avanti Media for the recording of Songs of Praise’s Young Choir of the Year Competition. The programme was presented by Aled Jones and saw choirs from schools and community groups across the country competing for the trophy and for the title ‘Britain’s Best Young Choir’. The competition was judged by acclaimed tenor Russell Watson, JB Gill of JLS fame, and vocal coach Carrie Grant. We spent this St David’s Day with our friends Avanti Media at Aberystwyth Arts Centre for the filming of the Can I Gymru! The Welsh language song contest, now in its 50th year, was broadcast live on the evening of March 1st on S4C. Each contestant performed with the backing of a live band, and the winner was decided by the audience at home. There was plenty of glitz and glamour with pyrotechnics, confetti, and the fabulous presenters Elin Fflur and Trystan Ellis-Morris! We provided microphones, EAW Microwedge 10’s for band monitors, our Midas Pro2, and three engineers. Many congratulations to this year’s winner, Elidyr Glyn! It was our pleasure to once again be a part of the Festival of Voice. The biennial arts festival, which is centred around the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay, returned this year and we provided sound equipment and audio tech support for various venues across the city.
